The establishment of the Water Studies Institute (WSI) makes Birzeit University one of the top research centres in Palestine. WSI has more than 10 Ph.D. researchers with advanced Water and Environment, Chemistry and Biology laboratories. Current research projects include development of innovative technologies for water and wastewater treatment, water quality and pollution prevention, use of molecular techniques for biofilm abatement in water supply networks, application of membrane technology for wastewater reclamation.
