Eligibility criteria for applicants

To be considered eligible for the Young Scientist Award, potential candidates must meet ALL criteria indicated below:

  1. The candidate should be citizen of one of the project target countries (Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia or Morocco), and live in one of those countries.
  2. The candidate should have no more than 35 years of age as of the 1st. of January 2007.
  3. The candidate should have one of the following academic/research status: M. Sc. student, PhD student or Post-doc.
  4. The works eligible for participation are: PhD thesis, Review paper (e.g. on work done in the frame of PhD), or Research paper.
  5. The work should be conducted in (or in cooperation with) an institution from one of the countries belonging to the region A or B.
  6. The research field of the work submitted should focus on membrane technologies for water and wastewater treatment, reclamation and reuse:
    • Technology used: Reverse osmosis, Nanofiltration, Ultrafiltration and Microfiltration, Dialysis or Membrane bioreactor (combination of membrane filtration and bioreactor).
    • Final application: Drinking water, Municipal and/or industrial treatment and reuse, Surface water, Desalinisation.
  7. The candidate´s work should address one or several project target countries (Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia or Morocco).
  8. All information and documents requested for the first-step of the evaluation should be provided in English.
  9. Documents requested in the second-step of the evaluation could be submitted in English, Arabic or French.
