Regional Fair in Syria

The first Regional Fair of ProMembrane project was held in the city of Homs, Syria from the 9th to the 11th of September 2007. The Al-Baath University, as the local Partner, organised this successful event.

The Fair served as scenario for research centres, universities, and young researchers to present their current research activities in the membrane technology field.  More than 200 experts from Syria working in the field of water treatment or environmental protection and some experts from Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Iraq attended the event. During the fair, local companies presented different services and products.

The scientific programme included presentations from members of the consortium (key note lectures), with the aim to transfer understanding of methodologies for processes involving membrane technology. The participants were acquainted with the main procedures/methodologies applied for water reuse. Then a case study was taken from Italy, Germany, Tunisia, Egypt and Syria to explain know–how related to membrane technology.

Besides the key note lectures, the four applicants of the Young Scientist Award Region A  had the opportunity to present their work during the fair and got feedback from all members of the consortium (panel discussion).

You can download the flyer, scientific programm and presentations from the downloads section.

The Fair was also a great framework to discuss opportunities of cooperation between the European Union and Syria. The consortium had meetings with several authorities from the Al-Baath University and visited the AGED Carrer Service for Homs, Syria (Association of Experts in the Fields of Migration and Development Cooperation Germany, www.agef.net), as well as the Hassia industrial city.
